Recap:
We're beyond grateful to have hosted the 4th Annual Illuminate event on October 19—a powerful evening dedicated to survivors and those impacted by domestic violence.
This year’s event featured three incredible speakers—Tulay Dodson, Jus' Marvin, and Britney Aldrich—who courageously shared their vulnerable and inspirational stories of survival.
Our Emcee, Dr. Will James, guided us through the night, which was further enriched by a moving spoken word and music performance from Phoenix and singer Myy Jones. From heartfelt stories to the glowing lantern ceremony, we honored each person's unique journey towards light and recovery. Illuminate is more than an event; it's a movement of hope and empowerment, reminding us all that no one has to walk the path of healing alone.
This free event was founded by the fearless Valencia Jones, a survivor of fifteen years of domestic violence. Illuminate hosts 30 people who have been impacted in any way by domestic violence. The evening includes dinner, inspirational speakers, entertainment, swag bags, and door prizes. Our closing ceremony has a moment of silence with glowing lanterns in the dark to illuminate everyone’s individual journey. Illuminate is more than an event; it's a movement toward light, healing, and unity.
Founder's Story:
Valencia's personal story of resilience and recovery is the heartbeat of Illuminate. Her experiences have shaped this gathering into a sanctuary for those touched by domestic violence, providing a space where survivors and their supporters can share their journeys, embrace healing, and find strength in the solidarity of our community.
This Year's Focus:
Each year, we strive to make Illuminate a reflection of triumph over adversity; this year is no exception. Our gathering celebrates the courage of survivors, replacing shame with a shared celebration of survival. As we come together to share a meal, our beautifully decorated venue becomes a backdrop for stories of resilience, fostering a powerful sense of belonging and support.
Sharing Stories:
One of the most impactful elements of Illuminate is the opportunity for survivors to share their stories. Hearing from those who've navigated the path of healing reminds us all that while the journey is personal, no one has to walk it alone. These narratives of strength and hope are central to the spirit of Illuminate, encouraging attendees to reach out for the support they need.
Accessibility and Support:
We're committed to ensuring that Illuminate remains accessible to everyone, thanks to generous sponsorships that cover everything from the venue to providing therapy sessions for those who need further support. The profound impact of our past gatherings drives us forward, with countless attendees finding the courage to seek help, secure safe havens, and start anew.
Looking Forward:
As we prepare for our 4th Annual Illuminate, we're reminded of the power of community and the indomitable spirit of those who've faced domestic violence. This event is a testament to the journey of healing and the promise of a brighter future. Join us as we come together to support, heal, and illuminate the path forward for survivors and their loved ones. Together, we're making a difference and creating a legacy of hope and empowerment.
